I hope our administrator overlords don't mind if I start an unofficial suggestions thread. :P

I think the free spinning nature of some of our conversations could use a little comment threading don't ya think?

Oh yeah and a sort of link aggregation system might be useful. A place to see all the interesting links that a conversation generates? Maybe some del.icio.us bookmark integration?

A sort of database of interests would also be good. Our profiles would have specific tags which identify areas that we are interested in. When starting a new topic, we could tag the topic and it would be flagged to people who what the same tags in their profile. When adding tags, a visual representation of existing tags should popup for users to ensure that they are not duplicating the meaning of another tag, making for a health folksonomy.

Hey Sub, thanks for all the suggestions. And, thanks for starting up this thread. We need it!

What we are trying to do here is to provide a very clean, simple and pleasant forum. I know that the majority of our audience are not very good with computers. Most forums that I've come across are very very busy. We're trying to change that by using Vanilla over here and keeping the "add-ons" to the minimum.

Hopefully, with less distractions, we can keep it closer to the "email" feel that everyone is familiar and very comfortable with.

By doing so, I do hope to attract more not-your-usual-forumers to take part in the discussion here.

We're taking a big bet by doing this.

    What do you think?

    Guest:

I agree that most forums are over laden with an overabundance of features making it intimidating to participate. Any chance of a tiered system? Like "keep it simple" and "advanced tools", etc?

Prime cause for concern is that when open ended questions are asked, the answers go all over the place and might start to seem confusing to users.

Then again if people keep open ended questions to a minimum, we ought not have to worry about any technical works of wizardary. I guess it's a classic issue of feature bloat. Then again, complex things can be make simple ala apple. Lol!
