To those of you who still don't know, go to http://www.ted.com

The TED conferences is an event where the world's top thinkers and doers come together to share their ideas and their works. InteresThink is doing something similar here in Singapore, and since I'm a TED-lover, that's why I'm here.

But on a more important note, TED is a wonderful thing, and I'm sure the people who have seen it would agree with me. Now, wouldn't it be great if we could adapt some of the ideas from TED to Singapore?

    joelfirenze:
TED is an expensive conference. Do you think the TED-like activities in Singapore should follow this path?

Well perhaps you might want to take a look at BIL instead? It's actually what we are closer to achieving than TED. http://bilconference.com/

But I think what joel was suggesting was that the *ideas* of TED were brought to and adapted to Singapore. TED is source of innovative ideas that aren't just good to hear but to implement as well!

Yes, and to add to that, I think the ideas at TED are definitely worth sharing with students, who might be starting to think of the areas of higher studies to concentrate on. Having TED would help them understand the exciting areas to work on, and hopefully, might awaken a bit of innovation and creativity inside them.

I've been speaking to quite a number of individuals with smarts who don't know anything about TED.

I think that a tremendous amount of good can be done if we go out and actively tell people about TED and infect them with our enthusiasm for innovation.

It's fairly easy to get people to remember TED.com and I'm preaching the gospel of TED to everyone whom I meet. (Ministry of Trade and Industry, watch out! lol!)

Perhaps what our little community could do is to graph out a power map of how the concepts of TED can spread though individuals in Singapore. Can we harness social networking to spread the various viral memes of TED? I can see TED facebook apps already!

I think that joel is already infecting NUS's USP with the TED meme, good work!

Any more ideas on how can we get TED out there in Singapore?

Now, if only we can let the kids in secondary schools and JCs and Polys know about TED. Imagine the innnovation explosion we could create. Anyone with ties to MOE? haha.

On another note, I would like to point out that the TED conferences aren't the only kind of forums of its kind, Edge Foundation by John Brockman has been doing it for a while,

    http://www.edge.org

And seedmagazine is a decent portal for lateral thinking and cross-disciplinary material too.

    www.seedmagazine.com

Now, if only there was a way to map out the ways that topics are related together...
